1. How do you establish and maintain a good student-teacher relationship?
Aed204 - Teachers must always be an approachable authority figure. In order to maintain a positive relationship with the students I must always appear to be in a good mood. It is amazing what the simple gesture of smiling does to enhance the student-teacher relationship. In my opinion, students respect and trust the teacher with that teacher gives back that same trust and respect. When I am speak with my students I want to maintain a friendly tone and am always willing to hear them out. A positive relationship between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at either end.
Aed 204 - The qualities for a positive relationship can vary to set a learning experience approachable and inviting the students to learn. Some children have different strategies for learning and achieving their goals. A few students in a classroom will grasp and learn quickly, but at the same time there will be those who have to be repeatedly taught using different techniques for the student to be able to understand the lesson.
2. What is your opinion: Do students come in to class with a desire to learn or is it the teacher’s job to foster a desire to learn?
Aed205 - It is absolutely the teacher's job to establish a positive learning environment that fosters the students' desire to learn. As teachers we must make students want to come to class and learn. We have to make it fun. I have never heard of a child that was not been excited to start school and learn, BUT, as time goes on, things get in the way of that excitement and lots of times erases it all together. That's why later on you hear kids say that they hate school. Aed 205
